Why an Avengers crossover cover is not just another variant sticker
Crossover covers carry event trade dress, shared credits, and drop windows that do not behave like a monthly single-title variant.
A monthly single-title variant usually changes the artist and keeps the same issue number. An Avengers crossover cover has to survive two extra facts: the event name printed in the trade dress, and a drop window that may close while a sister title is still solicited.
When a collector writes to this desk, we ask for the event name before the variant letter. “Cover B” on a tie-in is not the same object as “Cover B” on the flagship Avengers chapter. The letter is a filing aid, not a personality.
NFT comic listings add a third trap. The host metadata may list a token id while the cover file still shows last month’s connecting art. We read the solicitation art credit against the file, then write that comparison into the reservation note.
Incentive ratios travel with crossover covers more often than with ordinary variants. A 1:25 that belongs to the event wraparound is useless if you actually wanted the character-specific incentive from the second week. Name the ratio and the character, not only the rarity tag.
